Jungle Scout Review

Jungle Scout is one of the original big software companies for Amazon sellers. They are still innovating new tools to improve the experience for its users today!  In this Jungle Scout review, we cover the various tools offered by the software suite as well as what makes it stand apart from the competition.

Chrome Extension

Doing product research with the Jungle Scout chrome extension is such a nice experience.  To start, the visuals are very pleasing.  This may be a personal preference, but the spacing and font sizing chosen by the JS team makes the data more readable.

Jungle Scout Chrome Extension window

Running the chrome extension on an Amazon search results page, you are presented the screen above.  At a glance, it gives you lots of extremely valuable information when trying to identify a product to sell.  The top of the window gives you the averages of the first page. This includes the sales rank, the price, and the number of reviews.

In the top right of the window is the Jungle Scout Opportunity Score.  This is a metric that Jungle Scout calculates to give you an overall idea of the demand and competition of this market.  You shouldn’t decide on a product because of this number, but if you find something that has an Opportunity Score of 8 or higher, you’ll definitely want to look into it further!

Jungle Scout Chrome Extension data box

The above photo is a newer addition to the Jungle Scout chrome extension which is a game changer!  Simply having the extension installed in your browser, when you do a search on Amazon, a box like this one appears below each listing.  You can see right away what that listing’s estimated revenue is, what the FBA fees are, how many daily sales it makes, etc.  This makes validating a product so much faster and easier!  You may not even need to run the extension since all the data is given to you when you do a search!

This is just one of the quality-of-life improvements that Jungle Scout has brought to its members.

Product Research Tools

To keep this Jungle Scout Review from getting excessively long, we will briefly touch on the product research tools you get as part of the bundle.

Product Database

The Product Database allows you to search the entirety of Amazon for products that meet the specific criteria you’re looking for.  For instance, you may want to find a product that sells for between $20 and $25, weighs less than 2lbs, generates $10,000 in revenue each month, and has less than 200 reviews.  You can enter all those details into the Product Database and it returns all the products that fall within those parameters.  You can then look them up on Amazon to analyze the market.

Opportunity Finder

Similar to Product Database, you can enter criteria, but this time you aren’t looking for products – you’re looking for keywords.  You can filter on the average monthly sales, the average product price, and the search volume of the keyword.  It then returns keywords that meet this criteria. This can be invaluable information as it helps you validate a market before you even pick a product.  If you can identify a keyword that is being searched for (ie. has demand), but the product offerings don’t fulfill that demand, then you can capitalize on that untapped market.  Opportunity Finder is a great tool to help you find a winning market!

Success Tools

Jungle Scout does a lot more than just help you with product research.  It has tools to help you throughout your FBA journey, so rest assured there’s something for everyone, despite what stage you’re at!  This Jungle Scout review touches on our favorite success tools.

Keyword Scout

So you’ve got a product, and maybe you know the primary keyword relevant to your product.  However, if you want to see big success, you need to rank on as many keywords as you can!  Keyword Scout can help you with this!  You simply enter your seed keyword and it will return a list of related keywords you may want to consider either using in your listing or targeting in your advertising campaigns.

An even cooler feature of Keyword Scout is the ability to do a reverse-ASIN look up. Using this tool, you can see what keywords your competitors are ranking on!  You can lookup up to 10 different ASINs at once to get a full picture of the keywords being used within your market, and you can use this information to find which keywords are under utilized.  Spying on your competition with this tool can give you a big leg up!

Alerts

Simply said, Alerts can save you a LOT of time.  Alerts monitors not only your listing, but also the listings of your competitors to see when changes occur.  Did Amazon change your product’s category?  You’ll get an alert.  Did a competitor drop their price?  You’ll get an alert.  Using this tool means you don’t need to look all this stuff up every day and keep track of all the details.  Jungle Scout will do it all for you!

Training Course

All Jungle Scout subscription plans come with the Academy training course.  Academy is a full A-to-Z training program, with over 130 videos, taught by Jungle Scout CEO, Greg Mercer.  This on-demand video library means you can learn at your own pace. It doesn’t matter if you’re brand new to FBA or just need a refresher on a specific module.  You can also join live Q&A sessions with the Jungle Scout experts if you get stuck!

Pricing

Jungle Scout offers 3 tiers for its subscriptions (each of which are discounted if you buy them on an annual basis).  For the purposes of this Jungle Scout review, we look at the “Pay Monthly” option.

Basic Plan - $39/mo

The Basic Plan is the least expensive option at $39/month, but it may not be enough if you are serious about getting an FBA business off the ground. The reason we say this is because the Basic Plan has a limited number of monthly searches you can do. This limitation applies to Opportunity Finder, Product Database, and Keyword Scout.  Each of these you will likely need to run many more times in a given month when doing product research.  For this reason, we don’t suggest going with the Basic Plan

Suite Plan - $69/mo

The Suite Plan hits the sweet spot. (See what we did there?) While it is a little pricier at $69/month, it has no limitations on searches.  You can run 100 searches a day if you like!  Also, when doing keyword research, you can access up to a year’s worth of historical data (where the Basic plan only goes back a month).  The Suite Plan also opens up several tools not available in Basic, such as Rank Tracker, Listing Builder, Inventory Manager, Alerts, and more!  If you’re planning to take product research seriously, then we would suggest going with the Suite Plan

Professional Plan - $129/mo

The Professional Plan is not likely something many sellers will need.  If you’re a solo-entrepreneur, then you likely can’t even make use of the features you get with this tier.  At $129/month, you can have 6 users on your account, you get access to more historical data, you can track the rank of more keywords and send more emails.  Long story short, unless you have an established and successful Amazon business already, then you don’t need the Professional Plan.

Jungle Scout Review Conclusion

Jungle Scout is a fantastic bundle of tools for any Amazon seller.  If you’re just getting started, signing up for Jungle Scout can be an excellent start for you to learn the industry and find your first product!  At $69/month, it does come in a little cheaper than Helium 10, but Jungle Scout also does not contain all of the features Helium 10 has.  If you’d like to see our review of Helium 10, you can read it here.

Having said that, you won’t be disappointed with Jungle Scout.  It has everything you need to get started, and if you’re on a budget, it is a great value for your money!
